About the River Cottage

The self catering thatched roof cottage sleeps two and has a large lounge and dining, kitchen, bath and bedroom with wooden floors, just a stones throw from the river. Expect total relaxation with the sounds of the river and the natural beauty of the Magaliesberg Biosphere.
The Cottage is far removed and secluded with your own fenced in private space and entrance. You have access to 350 ha of African wilderness where you can go hike, mountain bike, climb, fish, kayak, bird and game watch in a private game reserve.
As a guest you will have access to the Lapa which features a hot tub, fire pit, braai space, teppanyaki and large dining table situated close to the cottage. The Lapa is a shared area and might be used by hikers as a starting and ending point of the trails.
Accessible by regular car, though we recommend a vehicle with higher clearance for ease of travel, but not necessary if driven carefully.
Entrance or exit to the property can be an adventure on its own. Depending if the river is flooding, usually only in summer, you might have to access via our back entrance. We will confirm closer to check in if you need to take the alternative route.
Uber or Taxi services find it difficult to navigate our dirt roads. We charge a R100 per lift to the main road (R511).

Main entrance directions:
Total 5km / From the R511 turn into Lazy River Road and enter visitors gate with the provided code. Follow the dirt road for approximately 3,8km until you turn left onto a single lane concrete road at the sign of 111. Keep left until you reach our green entrance gate. Once opened you will cross over our bridge which sometimes is overflowing but safe to cross.
Back entrance when river is flooded:
Total 9km / From R511 turn into Gemstone Road. Follow the road for approximately 5,3km passing through Netso Plaas. At a small four way crossing marked by a 111 sign, turn right and follow the single lane road for 2km and keep left at the split following the 111 sign until you reach our south gate. Check in to the River Cottage is strictly from 15:00. If you would like to arrive earlier please book for hiking (day pass) or you can also take a game drive around the farm (recommended for SUV or 4x4).
*Please Note: Forestiva Farm is a nature reserve, there is a possibility you will encounter wildlife, insects, reptiles, etc which we have no control over.
